Cheque Presentations

Date: Wednesday September 10, 2008

A group of students held a pyjama-thon in Bletchley on June 24th to raise funds for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. Fundraising is part of their community project and we were delighted when they chose our charity to be the benefactor. Hearing Dogs for Deaf People was the pupils own choice and they decided to do a sponsored run to raise the money. To make the run more interesting it was decided to do a mile in their pyjamas (hence pyjama-thon). The students were supported by staff, all in pyjamas except for one nightie and they raised £146. One student even ran further than the mile and two others ran it three legged as they were tied together. Janet Durbridge and her Hearing Dog Gypsy accepted the cheque on behalf of the charity on Tuesday 22nd July. Previously they had a slide show and talk about Hearing Dogs and met Stan and Gompa his hearing dog and Terry with young puppy Jamie who is being socialised with a view to training as a Hearing Dog.

Also in June there was going to be a Presentation of a cheque from the Leighton Buzzard Rotary Club. We were one of two charities chosen by the outgoing President. The presentation was going to take place at a Summer BBQ being held in one of the member’s gardens. Unfortunately, the demise of the new president; only a few days before the BBQ meant that the event was cancelled. We finally met up with Alan Layzell at Stockgrove Park on Friday 10th September 2008 and he presented us with a cheque for £500. He in turn, was presented with a certificate from The Grange and a more personal one from the MK group showing all our Branch Hearing Dogs. One very interesting point came out of this. Larrie who is Doreen’s Hearing Dog was actually sponsored by the Leighton Buzzard Rotary Club.
