Magnificent Brownies raise funds for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People
Date: Wednesday October 3, 2007

During the summer term the 2nd Stony Stratford Brownies were working for their ‘FRIENDS TO ANIMALS’ badge. They had a talk and slide show about Hearing Dogs and decided to raise funds through a Table Top Sale. With the help of family and friends they collected items for the sale, which took place at Queen Eleanor Combined School on Sat 9th June. This is the school where they meet weekly on Wednesday evenings. The event was a big success and they raised £69.70, which they donated to Hearing Dogs. As the Brownies were due to finish for their summer break, it was decided to have the presentation of the cheque on Sept 12th, the first evening of their autumn term.

In recognition of their marvellous effort, Hearing Dogs HQ sent us a Thank You Certificate to present them. Milton Keynes branch decided to also give them a more personal thank you with a certificate showing our own three Hearing Dogs, Gypsy, Gompa and Iris. In a short Ceremony in the school hall our Chairperson Doreen Monk presented Brown Owl (Sue Smith) with both certificates and she, in turn, presented us with the cheque. The MK certificate had been framed which means the girls can take turns to look after it at home. Doreen was supported by Stan Marriner and his Hearing Dog Gompa, Dorcas Fogan a Hearing Dog Socialiser with her current dog Mocha and Joan Harrington, who gave the original talk.
After the presentations the Brownies were able to meet and stroke the two dogs, who enjoyed all the attention. Thanks again to the 2nd Stony Stratford Brownies for raising such a wonderful amount for Hearing Dogs
